Beet Harvest 2008

Due to some bizarre snow, beet harvest was delayed by a week but we are in full force now.

Troy and Ryan started the harvest, which after 5 years I still have a love/hate relationship with.

The first three years we were married I was working so harvest never really had a HUGE affect on me. We both worked late....me later than him.

But since having kids my hate relationship comes to play. Hate that Troy saw Taylor for 30 seconds yesterday when we took him lunch and then for another 30 seconds later that night when he walked in the door as I was putting her to bed so he got good night kisses.

(While hoping for Troy to have a break between trucks Taylor liked picking up the dirt clots from the road and throwing them back in the field. Collecting of the 'baby beets' became one of her other favorites...until the Tractor and trucks came near by...then it was heading for cover!)

Neither of the kids saw him today. And I only saw him for 30 seconds, while he opened the car door, grabbed his lunch and rushed by to the tractor and awaiting trucks.

He leaves WAY early and comes home late.

TIME AWAY! That is what I hate. I always say that when it's harvest time (and sometimes planting time) I become a single mother. I don't care for it much.

The love side of this relationship is that once the harvest is over I pretty much have him home for THE REST OF THE WINTER! His schedule is WAY flexible and we can make plans to do whatever we want (not that we do a whole lot!)

As one harvest ends the year, I know another one begins come spring. And the cycle keeps going around and around.

That's no fun to have your husband gone so much lately. I can also relate--Steve has been working SO late. There was one day last week when Kaitlyn didn't even get to see him. It makes me realize how much he helps out with the girls when he's not around:)

Tax season is my dilemma. Do I hate it-Yes. Do I love it-Yes. Can't imagine if I was a full time single parent. Good-Luck
