A little less turdy

Well, the kitchen is complete and like Troy told me "It looks a little less turdy." He may think it only looks less turdy but I think it looks GREAT! It feels like a completely different room! I learned a lot from this project not only about myself but also about Old man Asson (previous owner). First, Old man Asson. He was cheap. Any short cut he could take he did it and for what little he would have to spend possible. His favorite "fix-it-up" tools were a roll of duct tape and tin foil. Yep, tin foil! Behind our fridge there was a hole and instead of fixing it, he stuffed tin foil in it and painted over it! When they added on the back bathroom instead of fixing the heat vent in the floor, he just taped it up with duct tape. I also don't think the ceilings are very straight or square for that matter! What I learned about myself...I need to clean my ceiling fans often! Man the one in the kitchen was pretty gross! I HATE painting ceilings and trim. I think my back is broken it hurts so bad! The best time to get things done with a young child is early in the morning (she's not bored of her toys yet) and late at night (when they are sleeping). I only learned the early morning thing on the last day...bummer! On the topic of children, I never realized how much I played with Taylor or am out and about each day. There was a couple times we just had to get in the car and go somewhere because she was so restless! This was my first time putting up a wall paper border and I don't like doing it much either.

It may have taken 2 weeks but I think it was totally worth it. The best part was to be able to clean the rest of my house (I got some weird "clean freak gene"), catch up on laundry, play with Taylor without paint covered hands and just to relax! Thanks to Patrice and her "junk" magazine I started to look at things a little different when I go into D.I. I found this really cool metal thing, had no idea what it was or where I was gonna put it but I think it looks good on my entry way table holding some nice smelling potpourri!

I was shocked when I started pulling up "kitchen decor" from downstairs just how much I had accumulated over the past (maybe) year. I had the wall paper sitting in the cupboard for at least that long! I would just see something (on sale of course) and think it would go good with my theme and buy it then pack it away! But I still have one more wall that needs something, I really want one of the long old window frames, I will have to do some searching!

Patrice and her junk book. I think she's in love with it (and the rest of us are inspired!)

It does look good!
