Troy and I (and Taylor) returned last night from our Salt Lake visit to see Grandpa Theron. After the long drive there, lunch with the Young's, a visit to see Grandpa, and a long visit to NPS Taylor was spent! For dinner plans we decide to check in to our hotel and order delivery. By the usual 8:00 pm it was bedtime for the little girl. Since she was located in the same room as myself and Troy we had to be a little quieter (plus no internet for Troy to play on) so we laid on the bed and watched t.v. At about 8:45-ish I roll over and find Troy peacefully sleeping...8:45-ish!! I continue to flip through channels (I HATE not having TiVo or atleast satellite to tell me what is on the channel I am flipping through!) I start to drift asleep on our very hard mattress, so I turn off the tube. Later....Troy and I both wake up in a complete sweat! Our room is so hot!!! We can hear the a/c unit running but when we feel the vent there is nothing coming out! There is two windows in the room, one of which is a sliding door, since we are on ground level and well, that's just too creepy for me to have it open I go for the smaller window to open. No luck. So I try the sliding door. I can't get it open, now even hotter from all the work I am putting forth to get the door open. Troy tries and when we remove a bar from the other side we get it open. The air outside is still and there pretty much is no difference. By this time Taylor has woke up and is now screaming! At the same time Troy and I look at the clock.....11:00! Are you kidding me! We both thought it was MAYBE 3 or 4. We end up calling the front desk to see if there is someone to come over and fix our a/c. There is only one guy working so our only option is to move rooms. Luckily the room right above us is available. We drag all our stuff up one flight of stairs and enter to a cool room! After a few minutes to unwind and cool down, we are back asleep. Taylor wakes up around 2:30, when I go to pick her up she is a little cold. Into bed with Troy and I she goes. I am pretty sure the two times she woke up crying is one from Troy rolling over on her and the second from me putting my elbow across her face (gently). :) But atleast she is warm...until about 5:30! I end up telling Troy to turn the a/c off it is so cold! Are we ever going to be happy on this night?? Probably not! After Taylor's bath Troy turns on the heat it is still pretty chilly in the room, but I turn it off when my blow dryer, straightner and the steam from the shower come into affect! There is a lot more "are you kidding me's" that happened on this trip but then you might think we didn't enjoy our little get-away (which we did) minus our horrible night (DON'T STAY @ THE CHASE SUITES/HOTEL!), taking a few tries to get to the hospital/finding a parking spot (Troy has no patience!), not finding anything good at the NPS store (I did get baby cold medicine for about 1/2 price!), no luck finding the paintball store Troy wanted to look at (so sad) or striking out on my pick of store...it didn't exist! But you minus all that and it was an enjoyable stressfree couple of days! :)

We had an experience similar to yours. We were staying at the Marriot across from temple square. Our heater didn't work. All night we tried to convince ourselves that it really wasn't as cold as we thought it was. We nearly froze. In the morning we finally called the front desk and they came and checked it...yeah it was cold in our room. They gave us a half price coupon!
When Deid and I went to visit Grandpa Theron, we ended up staying at the University Guest House. I would definitely recommend it on any future visits to SLC. It's cheap, free breakfast, and close to the hospital and university.
