In the past, whenever Troy was watching the Glenn Beck show I would never pay attention to it (to be honest he bugged me, but not as bad as Jim Kramer does!) His show would just be background sound. Since Troy and I went to his Christmas show in Salt Lake this past December, I can actually tolerate listening to him. I still won't sit down just to watch him, but I will listen a little more to what he has to say. This past Monday he had a segment on taking down your Christmas decorations and lights. I was walking by the office when I heard him talking about it and it stopped me in my tracks. I stopped in the hallway to listen. I may not have it all correct on dates or how he said it...and I am sure Troy will correct me on it!
He said that people should have everything down by the first of January. If they didn't then should atleast have the Christmas lights turned off. If they definately don't have things taken down by the 8th of January they are just plain White Trash. He said that if we have neighbors that still have their decorations up and lights on to take a picture and send it to him, so he can call them out on t.v. Well, after he said that I looked at the date and it was the 8th and all my decorations were still up and the lights outside had just turned on. I guess we are still white trash even though we have somewhat of a lawn and our dog doesn't have the duct tape crutched leg or lamp shade on it's head!
I walked straight into the kitchen and unplugged the lights to a small tree I had sitting on the entry way table (Taylor had been pulling on that plug for weeks now...maybe she was trying to tell us something?!?!?) Troy followed me shortly after and gave me a hard time about it doing it, but then went out and unplugged the lights on the outside. It's funny how easy we are influenced these days.
I kind of have a few good excuses to why we still had our decorations up:
1) The week after Christmas Taylor was sick with croup and was very whiney/clingy. Wasn't easy to get laundry done, let alone take down decorations.
2) The month before another holiday celebration (this time it's Valentines) I list my holiday clothing in AJ's Bow-tique. As of today I have 4 to still make and have already mailed/sent out 5 outfits! I have been at the sewing machine every chance I have!!! One night alone I did 2 outfits and 11 bows! Money!
3)Fills up my large empty living room. The lights to the main Christmas tree had been off since the night I slept on the couch with Taylor when she was sick, but it was still there! Anyway, I would love to have to move something out of the living room to make room for the tree. But I don't. We can set it up and move one single chair and that's it! I would also love tables! I am still (not very patiently) waiting for my sofa table Troy is building. I Want: a coffee table, two end tablee (but would settle for one) a small round table to place in the back of the room with the "reading" chair, and a hutch. All are wooden and would get nothing but complaints from Troy if they were bought from a store. They have to be built well and "not cheap".
4) Love how the outside lights light up our house.
5) I just love Christmas!
With all this said I took down the decorations yesterday. We still have the outside lights up (Troy's job), but they are just there. They don't light up our house anymore :(
Our living room seems empty to me again and it will be another year until the decorations get to be put back up-

I thought you were going to say you took a picture of your house and sent it in!
Actually that is a pretty good idea. Now where did I put the camera?
